The key is to ensure that the interventions to Different change meet the people in their current situation rather than where we want the people to be.
This requires a new view of changes. This isn’t about the different stages of change or methods to increase willpower. It’s about the various levels of an person.
In my book – Flex Make Something Different – I suggested that there are at minimum 10 levels of these (including two biological ones: desires and habits, thinking about, intention, speaking doing, remembering, and taking note). the change must be able to improve the automated processes continuously and also provide people with positive emotions about their actions to be able to reflect on.
If you fail to meet both of these requirements, the outcomes will be disappointing or even temporary. The concept of Do Something Different We employ small and real-time actions (small changes in behavior) to serve as levers to reflect thoughts that occur because of new experiences. The Do attempt to be effective at multiple levels, some in a consequential way and others in real-time.
Involved in behavior that is being targeted
Interventions that only change just all about wellness one or two of the levels will likely be ineffective if others are also involved in behavior that is being targeted. Even when there is solid evidence that the issue is mostly at one level (perhaps the biological cause. Which can be addressed by using medications) adjustments are likely to be needed at different levels as well. This holistic approach could seem daunting. But research data suggests (and likely your own experiences do too). That the simplest solutions that focus on just the problem at a specific level are not always effective. The ideal solution would be to alter every level to make them coherent. Or in sync with one and each other.
The solution isn’t to provide people with the information they transformation health services want, but to make sure they don’t also, since’saying”yes” only works at just one level. This is why the majority of methods of education and information are not very effective in changing behavior. They are primarily designed to improve the power of willpower, or intent. This isn’t enough for most people, the majority of the time.
Improve the automated processes continuously
The article Flex (link to Living a Lie blog) I propose you that these 10 stages be linked either to. The costly real-time effort “Experiencing self” or the cognitive off-line Reflecting self. Any change program that does not tackle at least two of these aspects is likely to be ineffective. In order to be effective, the change must be able to improve the automated processes continuously. And also provide people with positive emotions about their actions to be able to reflect on.
If you fail to meet both of these requirements, the outcomes will be disappointing or even temporary. The concept of Do Something Different We employ small. And real-time actions (small changes in behavior) to serve as levers. To reflect thoughts that occur because of new experiences. The Do attempt to be effective at multiple levels, some in a consequential way and others in real-time.
